Connecting your shop

If you sell gas through a WooCommerce or Shopify shop, Bottle can pull that catalogue in rather than anybody keying it twice.

There is nothing to install on either platform. You create credentials in your own shop admin and paste them into Bottle.

WooCommerce

1. In WordPress, go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API.
2. Add key. Give it a description like “Bottle”, pick a user, and set permissions to Read.
3. Copy the consumer key and consumer secret. WooCommerce shows the secret once.
4. In Bottle, under Connections, add a WooCommerce shop with your shop address and paste both.

Read permission is enough. Bottle does not write to your shop.

Shopify

1. In Shopify, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps.
2. Create an app, call it Bottle, then Configure Admin API scopes and allow read_products.
3. Install app, then reveal and copy the Admin API access token.
4. In Bottle, add a Shopify shop with your .myshopify.com address and paste the token.

This is a custom app in your own shop. Nothing is listed publicly and nothing is installed from the Shopify App Store.

Sterling only, for now

Bottle handles sterling at the moment, so a shop selling in another currency cannot have its catalogue pulled in. It says which currency it found rather than importing the numbers as though they were pounds.

VAT

Prices in Bottle never include VAT: it is added on the invoice. So when Bottle pulls prices from a shop, it takes the VAT out of any that have it in.

Whether a shop’s prices include VAT is read from the shop itself, from the setting you already made in WooCommerce or Shopify, so there is nothing to set in Bottle. If the shop will not say, Bottle takes it that they do, because shops in the UK selling to the public must show prices with VAT in. If you are not VAT registered, nothing is treated as containing VAT, because none of your prices do.

Pulling the catalogue

Press Pull catalogue and Bottle creates what is new and updates what it has already seen, taking VAT off as it goes where your shop’s prices include it. It matches on your shop’s own product id, so pulling twice does not give you two of everything, and a listing that comes back out of your shop’s archive comes back here too.

Your prices stay yours. A shop’s price is used the first time Bottle sees a product, and left alone after that. Your shop knows nothing about the rates you have agreed with particular customers, so a routine sync will never quietly reprice your round.

Who can do this

Owners and admins, signed in. Not drivers, not API keys, and not Claude or ChatGPT: these credentials can act on your live website, and anything holding them can do what your shop can do.

Disconnecting

Forgets the credentials immediately. The products stay, because they are your catalogue now, and the shop ids stay on them, so reconnecting later picks up where you left off.
